California Lawmakers Issue Letter Demanding Oversight of ICE Solicitation

A congressional delegation of California representatives is criticizing the process by which federal immigration officials sought bids for four private immigration detention facilities in the state last month.

In a four-page letter delivered to the acting heads of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, California’s two U.S. Senators and 19 members of the House of Representatives charged that ICE’s solicitation process appears to have been tipped toward the three for-profit companies that currently operate immigration detention centers in the state, a potential violation of federal procurement law.
